Our mission is to provide individualised support to people of all ages living with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Day Programs
GPSO operates a disability day program centre in both our Griffith and Leeton facilities. We offer engaging group activities in a state of the art facility designed to develop and empower each individual to become independent and achieve their identified goals. Our day program aims to build and improve on social skills to form long lasting friendships, develop emotional and self regulation abilities and be a part of a community that works together.
Our experienced staff will deliver a meaningful and person-centred program for each Participant, catered to their needs and goals.
Depending on individual needs and funding, day programs may be delivered in a 1:1 or group setting. Activities may include but are not limited to cooking, beauty therapies, sport, art and craft, gardening, workshop, fitness and hydrotherapy, dancing and social outings.
Personal Care
GPSO provides personal care and assistance with daily living tasks for people living with a disability.
GPSO assists Participants to develop daily living skills and provides support with a variety of personal care tasks:
- Toileting procedures
- Showering
- Personal Hygiene
- Administration of medication
- Meal assistance
- Peg procedures
Community Participation
Community participation aims to increase the Participant’s independence and to participate as a valued and active member of the community.
- Participating in most community events and parades
- Visiting local galleries and other venues
- Personal shopping
- Ordering meals and eating out
- Using ATM's
- Going to the movies
- Visiting lakes, parks and community gardens such as Pioneer Park Museum, City Park or Mountford Park
- Visiting local shops and restaurants
- Attending sporting and cultural events
- Participating in social outings and excursions such as State of Origin matches
One to One Support
GPSO is able to design, develop and deliver individualised supports to Participants. GPSO supports Participants to develop the skills needed to achieve their goals, increase independence and participate as valued active members of the community.
The services provided during one to one support include assistance with community access, personal care procedures including hygiene, physical therapy programs, recreational activities, hydrotherapy, personal shopping, administration of medications and meal preparations.
One to one support can be provided in home, in the community or at our GPSO Centre.
Personal Training
Participants work with GPSO’s qualified Personal Trainers in our Fitness Centre to improve fitness level, maintain weight, improve muscle tone and strength and achieve a healthy wellbeing.
Our male and female Personal Trainers work with Participants to get motivated, active and maintain good health. GPSO offers Personal Training sessions at our Fitness Centre which includes a gym facility and hydrotherapy pool.
Our Personal Trainers can assist you with:
- Goal directed individual sessions
- Achieving general fitness and strength related goals
- Participating in sport, recreation and other physical leisure
Drop-in Support
GPSO can provide regular drop-in support to Participants who live in their own homes. These services are available to people who need a small amount of support to live independently in the community.
Staff will visit you in your own home and will provide support in a variety of areas depending on what you need.
This support could include the development of social skills, money management, leisure activities, household tasks, activities of daily living and access to the community.
Delivering School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)
School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) help Participants transition from school to work and are available in the final years of school and directly after leaving school.
GPSO can assist Participants to prepare, look for and gain employment. GPSO links with local Disability Employment Services, such as CVGT to further assist in finding employment. We provide meaningful, individualised capacity building activities so young people can achieve their employment goals.
As part of managing a Participant’s employment barriers, GPSO can:
- Support a Participant’s unique pathway to employment
- Help foster partnerships and goodwill in the local community
- Use their professional networks to engage and connect with employers.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a scheme of the Australian Government, implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), that funds costs associated with people living with a disability.
Short Term Accommodation
GPSO has established a STA facility in both the Griffith and Leeton facility and offer the provision of in-home respite if requested.
Supported Independent Living
GPSO will be providing Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports in our newly built houses in Griffith.
Specialist Disability Accommodation
GPSO is in the process of constructing Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) houses in the Griffith area.
